Washing on line = telling off !

Hello folks and hope you are well. Its quite sunny here today although its a bit nippy. It is however quite windy so I have sneaked some washing on the line in the hope that it dries off a bit. My husband is completely against this and this is where the telling off occurs. He is of the opinion that its not warm enough to dry washing and that its a fruitless exercise. I think that if it is windy the washing still dries off even if it is still a little damp, its a lot drier than before. We often debate this and I get moaned at as soon as the washer completes it cycle '' you are not hanging that out are you ?''. Reading blogs and real life conversations have taught me that not everyone puts the drier on ( or in fact owns a drier, ourselves included ).  As I type I can see the shirts blowing back and forth in the wind. So readers are you with me or are you going to tell me off ?

  1. I think they stand a chance of drying off a bit and they have that lovely 'fresh air' smell. I've stopped hanging jeans and towels outside though because they feel just as damp when they come in as they did when I traipsed down the garden to hang them out- that's probably because the garden is quite sheltered so doesn't feel the benefit of the wind much and the sun doesn't get high enough in the sky to reach most of the garden either. If I had a really blowy place to hang them I would though.

  2. No - just sympathise with you when you have to go out in the cold and bring in a basket of damp washing [which then gets festooned over the airer in the kitchen or bathroom]

  3. My town has a bylaw against having a line in the back yard unfortunately. I use my dryer but it is high efficiency so hopefully I am using less electricity.

  4. I'm with you here. If it is windy, the washing WILL dry. It will then need a very short time airing inside. Obviously if it's windy AND rainy........

  5. Before dryers were invented people hung their washing out during the cold months and it dried just fine. You just couldn't do it it it rained/snowed. And maybe if it was so cold it froze, but if you hang it outside, it will eventually dry.
